Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act
The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act is an Indian law that is aimed at preventing female feticide and promoting gender equality. This 1994 statute makes it illegal to use sex-selective techniques to detect the gender of a foetus during pregnancy. The PCPNDT Act governs the use of methods like ultrasound, amniocentesis, and chorionic villus sampling, and it compels healthcare professionals to keep records and submit them to authorities. The act also specifies harsh punishments for violations, such as fines and imprisonment. The PCPNDT Act’s goal is to ensure that all children, regardless of gender, are born into a society that values and treats them equally.
HERE Pre-Natal Sex Determination and Disclosure of Sex (Boy or Girl before birth) of Foetus is not done. It is prohibited and punishable under Law.
SEEKING/ASKING FOR THE SEX OF CHILD IS ALSO PUNISHABLE OFFENCE UNDER PC & PNDT ACT.
